Message from the Chairman
If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant; if we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome." -- Anne Bradstreet
I begin my first message with this quote as a reminder that while the current political landscape may appear bleak, it should energize us to prevail and prepare for 2010 and beyond.
Spring is a time of rebirth and renewal. It is also time for new leadership at the Club, and I am honored and excited to begin my term as your new Chairman, a role I assumed during this past weekend's annual Spring Seminar.
The Spring Seminar included a fascinating line-up of Republican leaders who reinvigorated our attendees with their personal perspectives on how the Party can effectively move forward and succeed in the upcoming elections.
Particularly noteworthy was the reminder of how similar the landscape looked in 1993. Demo-crats held the White House and Congress, and things looked dire for Republicans. By 1994, only one year later, Bill Clinton was nearly irrelevant and Newt Gingrich successfully executed his “Contract with America” campaign to win back the House. It can be done. Soon.
As Chairman, I am committed to continue our efforts to identify candidates that promote our core values of personal and fiscal responsibility, and host events with speakers that espouse these beliefs.
I am proud of the efforts of the Club to lead the dialogue, find a way forward, and, as always, serve as your Republican refuge in Northern California. Our dynamic new Chair-Elect, Martha Ryan, and I encourage your active participation and welcome your feedback.
To future success,
Edward Poole, Chairman
